Project Overview: BlueOval Battery Park, Michigan
Projects: Electrical Tray Design & BIM Coordination
Challenge:
The BlueOval Battery Park Michigan project is a highly complex, large-scale manufacturing facility requiring advanced BIM coordination, detailed electrical design, and seamless collaboration among multiple trades.
With over 1.9 million square feet of combined production and packing facilities, the project demands:
- Precise routing of extensive cable tray systems
- Real-time coordination across disciplines
- Consistent model management in a fast-paced construction environment
- Strong communication between design, coordination, and field installation teams
United Electric recognized that the scale and technical demands of the project required specialized BIM leadership, design, and coordination expertise to ensure successful execution.
To meet these challenges, United Electric engaged NTG to provide BIM coordination and design support throughout the project.
Solution
NTG partnered closely with United Electric to establish a structured, technology-driven coordination process that supports both design and construction teams.
BIM, Design & Electrical Support
NTG provides comprehensive BIM coordination and electrical design support, including the design and routing of over one mile of combined cable tray systems. All modeling and documentation are developed to support constructability and field installation.
Project Scale
- 1.3 million sq-ft Production Center
- 600,000 sq-ft Packing Plant
- Total Facility: Approximately 1.9 million sq-ft
Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) Implementation
NTG utilizes Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) to enable seamless collaboration, centralized data management, and real-time model access for all stakeholders.
This platform allows for:
- Instant model updates
- Centralized document control
- Improved communication between trades
- Reduced version conflicts
Software Integration & Workflow Setup
NTG integrates multiple platforms into a unified coordination environment:
- Revit for detailed modeling
- Navisworks for clash detection
- Bluebeam Revu for document review
- ACC for cloud-based collaboration
- Procore for field coordination and model access
This integrated workflow creates a reliable shared data environment that improves efficiency and accountability.
Clash Detection & Issue Resolution
Navisworks is used extensively to identify and resolve spatial conflicts early in the design phase. Proactive clash detection significantly reduces field conflicts and minimizes costly rework.
Ongoing Coordination Support
NTG actively participates in weekly coordination meetings with installation teams and trade leaders. These meetings ensure:
- Alignment between design and construction
- Timely resolution of conflicts
- Clear communication of scope and sequencing
- Continuous improvement of coordination workflows
In addition, NTG coordinates closely with installation teams using Procore’s model coordination capabilities, providing real-time access to coordinated models, improved field visibility, and faster resolution of constructability issues.
This integration strengthens the connection between BIM coordination and on-site execution, helping ensure accurate installation and reduced rework.
Results
Through NTG’s leadership and technical expertise, the BlueOval Battery Park project has maintained strong coordination performance and construction readiness throughout its ongoing phases.
Key outcomes to date include:
- Successful design and coordination of over one mile of cable tray systems
- Reduced on-site conflicts through early and proactive clash resolution
- Improved collaboration between office and field teams
- Streamlined communication through ACC and Procore integration
