Project Overview: BYK USA Chemical, Louisville, KY
Projects: Control Panel As-Built Documentation & System Standardization
Challenge
As BYK’s facility evolved, maintaining accurate, field-aligned documentation became critical to support efficient operations, future upgrades, and long-term system planning. A standardized, reliable as-built drawing set was needed to improve visibility, consistency, and maintainability across all control panels.
Key needs included:
- Clear I/O wiring visibility
- Consistent panel documentation
- Improved troubleshooting efficiency
- Structured support for future modifications and expansion
- Standardized drawing organization
To address this, NTG was engaged to develop a complete, field-aligned as-built documentation package for all nineteen control panels and establish a scalable drawing standard.
Solution
NTG implemented a comprehensive documentation strategy utilizing AutoCAD Electrical, delivering a clean, organized, and expandable drawing system designed for long-term use.
Complete Panel As-Built Documentation
NTG developed a fully coordinated as-built package for all nineteen panels, including:
Panel Layouts
- 19 panel layout packages
- 3 drawings per panel:
- Exterior Layout
- Interior Layout
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
I/O Wiring Drawings
- Developed from client-provided spreadsheets
- 6–8 I/O drawings per panel
- Clear terminal identification and structured wire mapping
- Organized for streamlined troubleshooting and future modifications
Power Distribution Drawings
- 2–3 power distribution drawings per panel
- Accurate internal power routing representation
Total Deliverables
- ~220 drawings
- Standardized file naming and structured organization
- Developed entirely in AutoCAD Electrical for maintainability and scalability
Field Alignment & Coordination
NTG worked directly with BYK’s operations and engineering teams to ensure every drawing reflected real-world field conditions.
Support included:
- Virtual and on-site coordination meetings
- Component and wiring validation
- Alignment of documentation with installed equipment
The result was a documentation package built from the field up—not theoretical design.
ACC Implementation & Training
To strengthen document control and long-term maintainability, NTG also facilitated:
- Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) training
- Workflow guidance for structured document management
- Administrative setup support
This provided BYK with a centralized, organized platform for managing and maintaining their documentation moving forward.
Result
BYK now has a complete, accurate, and standardized as-built documentation system for all nineteen control panels.
Key Outcomes:
- Fully documented I/O wiring schematics
- Accurate, field-aligned panel layouts
- Structured power distribution documentation
- Improved troubleshooting efficiency
- Enhanced maintenance planning
- Scalable foundation for system expansion
- Centralized document control through ACC
Value Delivered
- Complete documentation for 19 control panels
- ~220 structured, maintainable AutoCAD Electrical drawings
- Standardized I/O and power distribution documentation
- Improved operational clarity and efficiency
