Project Overview: Humane Society Facility, Kentucky
Projects: Full Project BIM & Coordination Leadership
Challenge
The Kentucky Humane Society facility project is a mission-driven, multi-disciplinary construction effort requiring precise coordination between architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialty systems.
As an active project serving critical community needs, the facility demands:
- High levels of coordination across all trades
- Accurate integration of building systems in complex spaces
- Early identification of conflicts to avoid schedule delays
- Clear communication between design teams and field installation crews
In addition to overall project complexity, the electrical and mechanical systems required detailed review and refinement to ensure compliance with specifications and constructability.
To support these needs, NTG was engaged by BME Electric and Best Mechanical to provide BIM coordination and design support.
Solution
NTG established a comprehensive, technology-driven coordination framework to support all project stakeholders from design through construction.
Subcontractor BIM & Design Support
NTG provides dedicated BIM and design support for both electrical and mechanical scopes, working directly with BME Electric and Best Mechanical to ensure system accuracy, coordination, and constructability.
Electrical BIM Coordination & Design Support (BME Electric)
For the electrical scope, NTG is responsible for:
- Reviewing and correcting electrical equipment models that did not match project specifications
- Updating improperly modeled equipment to reflect approved submittals and design intent
- Designing and coordinating underground conduit bank systems
- Developing and coordinating all conduit banks throughout the facility
- Providing overall electrical BIM coordination across all building systems
These efforts ensure that electrical infrastructure is accurately represented, code-compliant, and ready for field installation.
Mechanical & Underground Coordination Support (Best Mechanical)
For the mechanical scope, NTG supports Best Mechanical by providing:
- Full underground BIM coordination
- Added modeling detail to the underground package to improve constructability
- Enhanced layout and routing for easier field installation
- Coordination and adjustment of mechanical piping systems to resolve spatial conflicts
- Integration of mechanical systems with electrical and structural components
This detailed modeling approach improves installation efficiency and reduces field modifications.
Full Project BIM Management
NTG lead end-to-end BIM coordination for all major trades on this project, ensuring architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical systems are fully integrated within a coordinated 3D environment.
All models are reviewed, aligned, and maintained to support constructability and field execution.
Clash Detection & Model Management
NTG runs regular, detailed clash detection reports using Navis & Revizto across all disciplines. These reports are used to:
- Identify spatial conflicts early
- Prioritize constructability issues
- Support design adjustments before installation
- Reduce costly rework
Clash results are documented, tracked, and resolved collaboratively.
Coordination Meetings & Collaboration Leadership
NTG leads recurring coordination meetings with subcontractors, designers, and field teams. These meetings focus on:
- Reviewing clash reports and model updates
- Resolving system conflicts
- Confirming routing and elevations
- Aligning sequencing and installation plans
- Maintaining accountability across trades
This structured approach ensures consistent progress and transparent communication.
Integrated BIM Workflows
NTG supports coordination through integrated BIM workflows that connect modeling, clash detection, documentation, and field coordination. Centralized data management allows teams to work from accurate, up-to-date models at all times.
